Ubuntu 10 and Ubuntu One

I upgraded to Ubuntu 10 about a week ago. It’s awesome. It runs great on my Dell Mini 10v. But I really can’t get enough of Ubuntu One, Canonical’s cloud service. It syncs stuff and integrates well into the operating system, but it also lets you buy music1 in Rythmbox that it stores in your cloud server and can be synced to all your computers.2

My netbook has a tiny solid-state drive, so this perfect for me. I’ve already bought one album3. Unfortunately, it won’t download to my netbook: it tells me it’s syncing, but nothing happens. I can still just access my Ubuntu One account through a browser and get the files that way, but it’s a hassle, since I would have to download and organize every single track individually. It also makes me wonder: if I can manually download everything without any problems, why is it so hard for Ubuntu One to do essentially the same thing automatically?

But I’m sure the wrinkles’ll be ironed out soon enough. Until then I’ll just have to listen to my new album through Chrome.

  2. The music doesn’t take up any storage on your chunk of server. []
